Salvador Sanchez has returned. Well, sort of… The nephew of the late great featherweight champion has been fighting as a pro since April 2005. Nearly identical in physical stature and looks, Sanchez II hails from the same hometown as his uncle, Santiago Tianguistenco, Mexico, and fights as a featherweight wearing the same trunks, robes, and shoes that his uncle adorned over 30 years ago.

After a brief stint in the amateurs, acquiring an 8-0 (6) record, Sanchez II opted to turn pro rather than pursue an Olympic gold medal despite winning an Olympic qualifying tournament in 2004. In the professional ranks, Sanchez II has thus far garnered a record of 27-4-3 (15), as of November 26, 2011. Managed by Grant Elvis Phillips since 2007. ***Sanchez is now rated #12 by the WBC in the featherweight divison.***

“Salvador wanted to be a fighter since he was little,” said Phillips, of his fighter’s aspirations. “His parents wanted him to go to school, similar to the original Salvador Sanchez, whose parents didn’t want him to be a boxer, either. They wanted him to go to college.”

"It’s an impossible task to ask Sanchez II to live up to the same expectations to which his uncle was held, but he’s certainly eager to try.
